We demonstrate the possibility of existence of indirect moving Wannier-Mott excitons in graphene. Electron-hole binding is conditioned by the trigonal warping of the conic energy spectrum. The binding energies are found for the lowest exciton states. These energies essentially depend on the value and direction of exciton momentum and vanish when the exciton momentum tends to the conic points. The ways to observe the exciton states are discussed. The opportunity of experimental observation of zero-gap excitons by means of external electron scattering is examined.

Time and space resolved measurements of the plasma potential in axial and radial directions in S- and P-striations in neon are performed. The measurements in different radial positions were carried out with high spatial resolution by means of simultaneous displacement of electrodes relative to the stationary probe. The plasma potential was found to be a superposition of the potentials of ionization wave and plasma oscillations relative to the electrodes. A method of decomposition of the measured spatio-temporal structure of the potential in components associated with the plasma oscillations and ionization wave propagation is proposed. A biorthogonal decomposition of the spatio-temporal structure of the potential is performed. A comparison of the decomposition results obtained by the two methods is made. The experiments revealed a two-dimensional structure of the potential field in an ionization wave. Qualitative discussions of the reasons for the occurrence of this two-dimensional structure are presented based on the analysis of the kinetic equation and the equation for the potential.

Spontaneous Smith-Purcell radiation at wavelengths of 100 and 220μm has been observed. The angles of observation were 17° and 28° and the electron beam energies 1.9 and 1.56MeV, respectively. The radiated power was about 320nW at 17° and 92nW at 28°. These values are in reasonable agreement with what is theoretically expected if the emission process is due to the acceleration of image charges induced on the grating surface by the electrons of the beam.

The bifurcation and chaotic motion characteristics are studied for a roll-to-roll flexible printed electronic laminated membrane subjected to initial tension in a steady temperature field. First, an aerodynamic model of the moving membrane is established by using an improved Newton's law for internal friction. Based on von Karman's large deflection theory, a nonlinear vibration differential equation is derived for the laminated membrane under multiple physical fields using Hamilton's principle and solved numerically using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. The effects of the temperature, air resistance and other parameters on the nonlinear vibration of the membrane are analyzed by using the bifurcation diagram, Lyapunov exponent diagram and corresponding phase diagram, Poincaré diagram and time history diagram. The results show that the membrane exhibits abundant chaos and bifurcation phenomena under a coupling field. The parameters of the membrane can be varied to control the nonlinear vibration characteristics. This study provides theoretical guidance for improving the transmission stability of electronic membranes and realizing high-precision overprinting.

Purpose - This paper sets out to discuss the development of an e-business strategy by a UK soft drinks company. It is based within the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector (also known as Consumer Packaged Goods), which is characterised by powerful retailers, tier-1 suppliers of industrial end-products and ingredient/raw material producers further upstream. The paper aims to examine the tensions created at tier-1 level relating to the adoption of e-business solutions for B2B activities. Design/methodology/approach - The paper draws on the literature to describe the technological options for achieving e-commerce, focusing particularly on Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and internet-mediated e-commerce. It then explores the current uptake of e-commerce, and the drivers and barriers that relate to its adoption. The theoretical issues identified are explored empirically using data gathered from a case study of Princes Soft Drinks. A detailed survey of organisations within its supply base was conducted in order to inform the development of its future e-business strategy. Findings - The results of the survey indicate a lack of enthusiasm among Princes' supply chain members for the adoption of e-commerce generally and for internet-mediated e-commerce solutions in particular. Research limitations/implications - The empirical survey is limited to the UK soft drinks sector and allows for the development of descriptive findings. These findings, discussed within the theoretical context of the paper, have potentially wider implications for the FMCG sector as a whole. Practical implications - The work has significant implications for the development of Princes' e-business strategy, and - by extrapolation - for other companies operating in similar commercial environments. Originality/value - The paper reports original empirical research in the commercially important FMCG sector. Its value stems in part from the examination of the supply chain tensions created at tier-1 - between powerful e-committed retailers and e-reluctant industrial suppliers.

We study the injection mechanism of a single electron from a static quantum dot into a moving quantum dot. The moving quantum dots are created with surface acoustic waves (SAWs) in a long depleted channel. We demonstrate that the injection process is characterized by an activation law with a threshold that depends on the SAW amplitude and on the dot-channel potential gradient. By sufficiently increasing the SAW modulation amplitude, we can reach a regime where the transfer has unity probability and is potentially adiabatic. This study points to the relevant regime to use moving dots in quantum information protocols.

Rapid electron motion in the proteins, cytochrome c and myoglobin has been studied using muon spin relaxation. Measurements between 5 and 300 K show that the inter-site diffusion rate for the topologically 1D motion along the polypeptide chain is only weakly dependent on temperature, Evidence for an increase in higher dimensional motion is seen around 200 K in cytochrome c, apparently reflecting structural change.
